HDTV Ratings: July 17-23

In the first of the year’s Monday night movie shootouts, TV3’s HD re-run of 12 Rounds was shot to pieces by TV2’s The Pursuit of Happyness.

The former averaged only 4.5% – 4.9% of the key demographics compared to the latter’s 6.7% – 9.9%.

TV One’s Unforgettable also packed more heat than 12 Rounds, notching up 5.9% – 10.0%.

Its HD stablemate, Missing, rated strongly as well, with 4.6% – 7.6%.

TV3’s Last Man Standing rebounded after weeks of being walloped by hour-long episodes of Shortland Street but couldn’t get up to full speed for its season finale opposite My Kitchen Rules.

It averaged 3.1% -5.2% while Modern Family had a disappointing send-off of only 4.7% – 5.5%.

TV3’s Sunday movie Knocked Up knocked off TV One’s HD Olympians drama, The Golden Hour, averaging 8.7% – 11.4% versus the latter’s 4.5% – 8.6%.

TV3’s own Olympics contribution, Golden, ended its run with a 4.5% – 6.5% rating opposite Planet Dinosaur’s 6.9% – 10.1% and The Big Bang Theory’s 10.3% – 13.3%.

On Saturday, the final of Judy Bailey’s Australia ironically posted its highest ratings of the season – 2.8% – 5.8% — while TV3’s CSI double-bill continues to rate respectably, averaging 6.3% – 6.5% of household shoppers and 5.2% – 5.7% of 25-54 year-olds.

The ITM Fishing Show improved on previous weeks, averaging 3.3% – 5.2% against Hyundai Country Calendar’s 4.1% – 10.8%.

TV2’s comedy re-runs and The Voice again dominated Friday night, although the best-of Graham Norton compilation held up well, scoring 6.7% – 9.1%.

Episodes at last picked up on Thursday, with 5.0% of 25-54 year-olds and 2.8% – 4.1% of other key demos while Bones averaged 5.4% – 8.0% and Fringe, for its 10.30 slot, an amazingly study 3.8% – 4.5%.

The Block NZ remains a top performer for TV3, with Wednesday’s episode averaging 10.7% – 11.8% and Thursday’s, 9.3% – 11.0% (which was neck-and-neck with TV2’s HD reality hit, Rescue 1).

However, TV3’s Wednesday HD dramas continue to struggle, with The Slap averaging only 5.2% – 5.7% and Breakout Kings, 3.3% – 4.3%.

TV2’s HD sitcoms Two and a Half Men (14.1% – 16.1%) and 2 Broke Girls (13.1% – 14.0%) went out on season highs, as did Tuesday’s The Middle (13.2% – 18.4%) and Suburgatory (11.0% – 15.7%).

TV2’s The Mentalist and GCB were roughly twice as popular as TV3’s NCIS and Hawaii Five-0 while earlier in the evening, Kings Cross ER was popular enough with household shoppers (9.4%) to beat TV One’s Highway Cops but averaged only 5.4% – 6.1% in other key demos.
