HDTV Ratings: July 9-11

Viewers have given TV3 a slap in the face for daring to launch a quality human interest drama in primetime.

Wednesday’s premiere of The Slap averaged only 6.1% of the network’s target audience, 25-54 year-olds, compared to Undercover Boss’ 7.2%, The Big Bang Theory’s 14.1% and Happy Endings’ 7.4%.

In other key demographics, it averaged 5.6%-6.7% and was most popular with TV2’s key audience, 18-39 year-olds.

The Slap’s premiere always was going to be on a hiding-to-nothing because it started halfway through Big Bang’s double-episode season finale.

The Block continued its ratings success, with 10.2-11.0% of key demos opposite Two and a Half Men (13.9%-16.00%) and the first half of Big Bang (13.6%-16.5%), while two hours later  Breakout Kings stumbled on with sub-par ratings of 3.7%-4.7%.

On Tuesday, Postcard From Afghanistan With Mike King largely earned viewers’ seal of approval.

It averaged 5.9%-8.9% opposite The Mentalist’s 8.1%-10.7% and NCIS’ 4.9%-6.1%.

At 8pm, it was an even race between Highway Cops (8.1%-9.9%), Suburgatory (8.6%-10.2%), with Kings Cross ER (4.8%-7.3%) close behind.

Half-an-hour earlier, The Middle averaged 12.3%-16.5% and at 9.30pm, GCB drew 6.8%-8.1% opposite Hawaii Five-O’s 3.2%-4.6%.

On Monday, TV One’s premiere of Unforgettable (5.9%-8.6%) and TV3’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (7.0%-8.6%) fought it out for second place opposite TV2’s penultimate episode of Desperate Housewives (9.9%-10.4%).

At 9.30pm, Missing performed solidly with 3.5%-6.9% and at 7pm, Modern Family had a better week with 5.8%-7.8%.

However, lead-in Last Man Standing barely managed 1.8%-2.9% against the second half of an hour-long Shortland Sreet (17.5%-20.3%).

  1. For once the masses spoke with truth! The Slap should have been re-named The Tedium as it was a torturous watch. The sensationalistic plot was straight out of a woman’s rag. The characters were all dislikable. This was based on some book? Give that a pass. All involved are deserving of a good smack to the chops, lol.
