HDTV Ratings: May 24-27

Sunday’s network HD premiere of Crazy Heart would have broken TV3’s heart.

The movie that won Jeff Bridges his first Oscar drew only 2.8% of TV3’s target audience, 25-54 year-olds, and 3.0%-4.0% of the other key demographics.

TV2’s SD premiere of Mr Deeds won the slot, with 2-3 times as many viewers — although the season finale of Call the Midwife was competitive in TV One’s 25-54 demo, averaging 7.4%.

While TV2’s The Big Bang Theory dominated its 7pm and 8pm slots, TV One’s The Food Truck narrowly out-rated it among 25-54 year-olds, leaving TV3’s Modern Family a distant third with half as many viewers and ratings of 4.7%-6.5%.

TV3 had better news on Saturday, when Ice Road Truckers and CSI posted ratings hikes over their premieres the previous week.

The former averaged 5.6%-7.3% and the latter, 6.0%-7.7%. They lost narrowly to TV2’s movie, Meet the Robinsons, but out-rated TV One’s cooking shows and were the network’s highest-rating Saturday night drawcards in months.

TV3’s ITM Fishing Show also was up, averaging 3.7%-4.2% compared to TV One’s 6.8%-10.6% for Hyundai Country Calendar.

On Friday, Sherlock bowed out with ratings of 2.3%-5.1% against 9.0%-9.7% for The Graham Norton Show on TV3; both were dwarfed by TV2’s American Idol final.

Similarly, TV2’s Once Upon a Time on Thursday was twice as popular as TV3’s The Finder, except among household shoppers, where the former rated 13.5% and the latter, 9.2%.

Fringe won the 10.30 hour in all the key demos except 25-54 year-olds, averaging 3.8%-6.7%.
