Humans Fans to See Double

If you missed Monday’s season premiere of Humans, and can’t bear to catch up with it on MediaWorks’ SD streaming service, 3Now, TV3 will repeat it on Sunday night.

The re-run will pre-empt Best of Graham Norton at 9.30, after Grand Designs NZ, and spearheads a same-week repeat strategy that TV3 hopes will boost audience sampling.

The premiere didn’t rate as well as TV3’s Rocky Horror Picture Show special, which the previous week averaged 4.3% of the network’s target audience, 25-54 year-olds, and 3.4% of 18-49 year-olds.

The return of Humans averaged 2.4% of 25-54s, to narrowly beat TVNZ 1’s Person of Interest — but it was thrashed by TVNZ 2’s First Dates NZ (4.9%), which had the benefit of top-rating lead-in Australian Survivor (6.4% vs House Rules’ 4.1%).

In the 18-49 stakes, Humans averaged 2.1% vs PoI’s 1.7% and Dates’ 5.0%.

While the ratings are disappointing for a drama of Humans’ calibre, they reflect the show’s fate in the UK, where it opened with 2.1 million viewers, “well down on the 4 million who watched the launch of series one last summer”.

Even so, TV3’s relaunch dwarfed the season premiere of lead-out The Blacklist, which could muster only 0.9% of 25-54s and 0.7% of 18-49s.

TVNZ 2’s The Walking Dead dominated at 9.30, with 3.2% of 25-54s and 2.9% of 18-49s. But these numbers were down sharply on last week’s season premiere, which averaged 5.1% of 25-54s and 4.8% of 18-49s.

TVNZ 1’s Lucifer took a hit last Monday against both TWD and Rocky Horror but this week’s ep bounced back with 18-49s to average 2.1%.

Lucifer has just received a full second-season order in the US, which is good news for TVNZ 1.

  1. Humans was back at its brilliant best, the acting is top notch, although we do need a couple of psychopathic Synths!

  2. “The return of Humans averaged 2.4% of 25-54s, to narrowly beat TVNZ 1’s Person of Interest — but it was thrashed by TVNZ 2’s First Dates NZ (4.9%).” Guess that shows the level of intelligence of the average Kiwi TV viewer these days being force fed a diet of reality TV.

  3. I thought that the 1st episode of The Blacklist was really good.
