My Sky + … Movies in February

Sky’s movie programmers are forecasting an exceptionally sunny February.

How else do you explain their digging so deep into the bargain bin next month for their premium movie channels?

On Premiere, only four of the 12 HD premieres had theatrical releases in NZ, and the best of these is the visually stunning but dramatically middling Oblivion.

Also new will be After Life, GI Joe: Retaliation and Identity Thief, along with a slew of direct-to-disc obscurities like Seeking Justice, The Day, Knife Fight and Freeloaders.

Prospects aren’t much sunnier on Extra, where the stand-outs, for want of a better word, are limited to I Give It a Year, The Master and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

As previously posted, two mini-series also will debut in HD: Bonnie & Clyde and Falcon.

Greats offers a more robust selection of library favourites, with In Bruges, Chicago, Collateral, Cold Mountain, There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men and Slumdog Millionaire (which last week aired in HD to high ratings on TV3).

  1. Which version of The Three Musketeers is on Movie Greats? My favourite is the 1970s version which I see is on Blu-ray 🙂

  2. And that’s the only way you’ll see it in HD — Movie Greats’ is the 2011 version.

  3. The 1970’s version is WAY better than the 2011 version… silly SKY 🙂
