Netflix Comes of Rage

Netflix will launch its latest original drama series, Insatiable, on August 10.

Dubbed “a coming of rage story”, the 12-part series is described as a dark, twisted revenge comedy starring Debby Ryan, Dallas Roberts, and Alyssa Milano.

Here’s the blurb:

For years, Patty (Debby Ryan) has been bullied, ignored, and underestimated by those around her because of her weight. But now that she finds herself suddenly thin, Patty is out for payback against anyone who has ever made her feel bad about herself.

Bob Armstrong (Dallas Roberts), a disgraced attorney whose true passion is coaching beauty pageant contestant, is the only one who sees Patty’s potential, and takes her under his wing — first as a legal client, and then as a pageant contestant whom he coaches toward becoming the top pageant queen in the country.

But Bob and his wife Coralee (Alyssa Milano) have no idea how deep Patty’s rage goes, or how far she will go to exact revenge on anyone who has ever wronged her.

Bullies beware: payback’s a bitch, revenge is sweet, and if you cross Patty, you’ll be her next treat.

Other August highlights include season two of Ozark, the premiere of Japanese sci-fi series Switched, and supernatural newcomer The Innocents.

Netflix also announced today that Cal Wilson and Urzila Carlson will join 45 other comedians from 13 regions in an unprecedented stand-up comedy event series premiering in 2019 (this follows news that Kiwi comedy The Breaker Upperers will stream next year on Netflix).

Each comedian will perform a half-hour stand-up special, some of which will be recorded at the upcoming Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, with sets also being taped in Brazil, Mexico, India, Germany and The Netherlands. All episodes will be released at once.

“Few things are better than discovering a new comedian you love,” said Lisa Nishimura, VP, Original Documentary and Comedy, Netflix. “With this event, we’re creating a true comedy festival experience for our members where they can scour the globe from home to find some of the freshest voices in comedy.”
