New Season: Bachelor Rebuffed, Marry Me Dumped

Despite lower ratings for TV3’s The Bachelor NZ on its second night, TV2, as suspected, has opted to dump Marry Me for double-episodes of Two and a Half Men.

TV2 trialled the strategy last night, when an hour of Two and a Half Men averaged 5.1% – 7.7% of the commercial demographics.

Viewership wasn’t high enough to win the hour but improved on what Marry Me was achieving at 7.30 and has prompted TV2 to stick with the veteran comedy for double-eps in the short term (Marry Me was meant to have resumed next week).

It sees TBNZ being more vulnerable to Men’s final season than Marry Me’s first.

TBNZ averaged 4.8% – 5.5% of the key demos, which was down sharply on its premiere.

But it did win its slot with 18-39 year-olds and rated higher with this group and 18-49 year-olds than Road Cops and Gold Coast Cops the previous week.

The 7.30 champ, however, was TV1 warhorse Fair Go (4.3% – 10.2%), which stumbled only in the 18-39 demo — as did stablemate Rapid Response (4.0% – 8.1%).

TV1’s premiere of I Am Innocent also was a hit, averaging 4.1% – 6.6% against TV2’s double-episode of Mom and the first half of TV3’s movie, The Back-Up Plan.

The latter won its slot in the 18-39 and household-shoppers-with-kids demos, and seesawed with Innocent in the 18-49 stakes.

TV2’s late-minute pre-emption of World’s Worst with a double-episode re-run of 2 Broke Girls lost to TV1’s Alex Polizzi’s Secret Italy (2.3% – 3.7%) in the 25-54 race but beat it in the other key demos and was competitive with The Back-Up Plan.
