New Season: How to Get Away With Ratings Murder

TV2’s new Tuesday night drama, How to Get Away With Murder, was an instant hit.

Unlike Scandal, which was from the same stable, HTGAWM bowed to strong numbers.

It averaged 6.9% to 11.2% of the major demographics, which earned it impressive channel shares of 20.5% – 28.4%.

TV3’s NCIS had to settle for only 3.9% – 4.8% of the key demos and TV1’s Person of Interest, 1.8% – 5.4%.

HTGAWM lead-out Grey’s Anatomy also won the 9.30 hour, with its season premiere averaging 3.3% – 7.2%.

Also-rans NCIS: Los Angeles rated 2.5% – 3.3% and TV1’s Fat Tony and Co, 1.1% – 3.2%.

TV2 also scored strongly with Shortland Street (10.8% – 18.8%) and the return of Motorway Patrol (7.5% – 12.6%), which won the 7.30 slot.

But TV1’s Our First Home again struggled drawing only 2.5% – 5.3% against these shows and TV3’s The Block: Glasshouse (5.9% – 9.5%), which largely out-rated it 2:1 in the key demos.

TV2’s new-look Wednesday line-up dominated most of the key demos but was up and down with 25-54 year-olds.

Marry Men averaged 6.7% – 8.3%, Two and a Half Men 5.5% – 8.9%, Mom 6.3% – 9.9% and Benched, 5.8% – 8.1%.

TV3’s Gallipoli (4.7% – 5.4%) started strongly but quickly shed viewers off the back of Road Cops (3.1% – 6.9%) and Gold Coast Cops (5.6%  8.3%).

But TV2’s dynamic duo of The Flash and Arrow went belly-up on Thursday: the former averaged only 2.8% – 6.4% and the latter, 3.1% – 4.7%.

And that was off the back of Police Ten 7’s 8.2% – 19.8% and Highway Patrol’s 5.1% – 7.4%.

Both programmes out-rated TV3’s premiere of Top Gear (4.8% – 6.0%) but TV3’s repeat of Mission: Impossible III largely dominated the rest of the night, with 3.7% – 4.4%, while TV1’s Offspring averaged a competitive 2.8% – 5.9%.
