New Season: The Bachelor Gladdens TV3’s Heart

TV3’s premiere of The Bachelor NZ didn’t win its time slot on Tuesday but is set to woo more viewers tonight.

The 90-minute launch averaged an impressive 6.6% – 7.4% of the commercial demographics, and grew in its last half-hour to peak at 8.5% – 8.6% of three of the four key demos.

TV2’s 7.30-8.30 line-up of Motorway Patrol (9.2% – 14.7%) and RBT (8.5% – 13.1%) stole far more hearts than Arthur Green’s “Joe Jonas-meets-Adonis“.

But lead-out How to Get Away With Murder (6.4% – 10.5%) proved vulnerable: its first half-hour lost to or seesawed with TBNZ, beating it outright only among household shoppers with kids.

That bodes well for TBZN courting more viewers tonight against weaker competition: a double-episode of Two and a Half Men.

Nonetheless, TV2 dominated Tuesday, with Grey’s Anatomy (4.3%) – 7.8%) winning the 9.30 hour against overlapping NCIS/LA episodes and TV1’s season premiere of Unforgettabe (1.0% – 2.7%).

The network would have been disappointed with Unforgettable’s return given it was one of its better rating dramas in 2014.

It wasn’t helped by lead-in Person of Interest averaging only 2.4% – 4.7% on the back of Our First Home’s 3.2% – 6.3%.
