New to Lightbox in April

The latest seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale and The Path will premiere exclusively next month on Lightbox.

Season two of the award-winning Margaret Atwood adaptation will stream weekly from April 26 while all of The Path’s third season will be available from April 18.

According to executive producer Warren Littlefield, the two major themes in season two will be motherhood and that “Gilead is within you,” reports The Hollywood Reporter from the TV festival, PaleyFest.

“When we start the season, [Offred] has a child and in this explosive, volatile chess game of season two, all her moves are for that unborn child and what life will be for that unborn child,” Littlefield said, adding that the season will also reveal more about how the United States became Gilead.

Said InideWire of The Path’s return: “A major revelation in the early episodes rocks the movement and the series’ foundation; it’s a bold development and one that opens up the series to relevant real-world parallels.

“It’s tough to say more without giving away the twist, but it’s worth noting how it could’ve sent the show spiraling into soap, and instead, only gave it more power.”

Also new will be season two of Aber Bergen (from April 30) and the Sky 1 comedy Bliss (from April 20), which stars Episodes’ Stephen Mangan as a Bristol bigamist, and Heather Graham and Jo Hartley as his wives (The Guardian dubbed it “a black comedy with a sunny exterior”).

Lightbox’s other highlights are limited to series that already have screened on Sky or free-to-air: Feud: Bette and Joan (from April 16), The Wrong Girl (from April 23), Imposters (from April 28), The Replacement (from April 23), Deadline Gallipoli (from April 25), and seasons five of The Americans (from April 4) and seven of Modern Family (from April 9).
