Outback Truckers Stalls in Debut

The arrival of Outback Truckers didn’t dent the 25-54 appeal of Grand Designs NZ on Tuesday.

The season four premiere of TVNZ 1’s Aussie reality series averaged 2.4% of the network’s most coveted demographic versus 5.0% for GDNZ.

The latter spearheaded three hours of back-to-back wins in the 25-54 demo for Three, with Lost & Found averaging 5.4% and Killer Women With Piers Morgan, 3.4%.

L&F and Killer Women also won their slots in the 18-49 demo, with respective averages of 3.8% and 2.6%; the latter was also tops among household shoppers with kids: 4.6%.

But otherwise TVNZ 2 won the night in all the key demos except 25-54. Shortland Street was sub-par but still won its half-hour with averages of 6.3% – 7.0% in the core age demos and 9.3% of HHS/k.

Lead-out Australian Survivor won its 90-minute slot in each of the prime demos except 25-54, with averages of 3.2% – 7.5%, while Prime’s hastily scheduled Tom Petty special averaged 1.3% of the channel’s 25-54 target.

TVNZ 1’s 24-54 fortunes improved post-Truckers, with Border Security averaging 4.1% and The Force, 3.0%, before collapsing with How the Rich Get Hitched (1.0%).

While it was a disastrous nightly nationally for TVNZ 1, except in the 5+ stakes (where it always dominates), the network was tops in most of the critical demos in Auckland, which is the biggest catchment for viewers.
