Prime Picks Up Three Properties

Prime has picked up Ice Road Truckers from Three and will premiere the latest spin-off in the network’s “Chicago” franchise, Chicago Justice.

It will screen season 10 of Ice Road Truckers 7.30 Mondays from July 24 and Chicago Justice 8.30 Wednesdays from July 26.

It’s not the first time Prime’s acquired a series from a Three franchise through its CBS Studios International deal.

It already airs NCIS: New Orleans but Three has enough procedurals not to lament the loss of Chicago Justice, particularly since both Chicago PD and Chicago Fire tanked in primetime on the network and the latest spin-off was axed after only one season.

It’s set in the Chicago State’s Attorney office and stars Philip Winchester (Strike Back, The Player), Joelle Carter (Justified) and Chicago PD’s Carl Weathers and Jon Seda (who will return to Chicago PD for season five — Three is midway through season two).

Said Variety of the Dick Wolf series: “Chicago Justice is not going to change our notion of courtroom dramas, but for what it is, it’s solid, satisfying stuff.”

USA Today called it “as irredeemably ordinary as TV gets — but then, as with the old Model T’s, prestige-level quality is not the manufacturer’s goal.

“It’s all about consistency and marketability, as Dick Wolf and his Chicago studio churn out time-filling, well-polished, mediocre (and interchangeable) parts that make no demands on your intellect or attention span.”
