Prime Announces HD Date — But Not to Media

Prime has revealed through its Facebook and Sky TV sites that it will go HD from February 13 — but only on the Sky platform.

Why it can’t offer Freeview|HD viewers Prime in HD isn’t clear.

Here’s what the broadcaster has shared on Facebook but not directly told media (I only learned about it courtesy of long-time reader Trevor):

We’re dead keen to get HD rolled out to as many people as possible, as soon as possible and we are still in discussions with our various broadcast providers on how to do this. With some great new content coming in February and the Rio Olympics only a few months away we made the decision to get HD up and running for those we could now while we continue to talk to other providers – we’ll let you know as soon as we have any further updates on this.

But hold on, not so fast, we’re not done yet! Feb will bring with it a long awaited new look channel rebrand (colours! graphics! fonts! oh my!) plus the arrival of closed captioning to key local and international content. We’ll also be bringing you some seriously addictive shows, including the series premieres of Limitless, Unforgotten, Simply Nigella and Partners in Crime and plus the return of favourites like Scorpion, NCIS: New Orleans, Antiques Roadshow and Elementary.

If you’ve already booked Prime content on MySky, you’ll need to rebook because of the HD upgrade.

However, at least subscribers won’t need an HD Ticket to see Prime in HD on Sky.

  1. Great, I will now watch Prime more, it’s a shame we aren’t having Doctor Who this year 🙂

  2. New Doctor Who season should be released later this year.

  3. I guess you haven’t heard the news Mark, there is no new series of Doctor Who this year, apart from a Christmas special. The next series won’t be until 2017 BOO 🙁

  4. Fantastic news with Prime going HD but please have HD up and running on Freeview and in time for Rio in August.

  5. You guys still watch broadcast TV?

  6. Prime is now in HD on Sky!
