Primetime Top 10: August 9

The countdown towards Sunday’s season finale of The Block NZ: Girls vs Boys hammered TV2’s new comedy block of The Middle and The Real O’Neals.

The sitcoms out-rated TV One’s Outback Truckers but trailed the reality hour by several points in the 18-49, 25-54 and 5+ demos.

Prime’s premiere of Jericho averaged 3.7% of viewers 5+ to beat TV2’s Quantico and challenge TV One’s Inconceivable — and was only a point behind TV3’s NCIS: Los Angeles.

But it finished a distant fourth in the 25-54 and 18-49 races while lead-out Game of Thrones’  free-to-air season premiere averaged 1.1% – 1.9%.

The Block helped TV3 to win the night in the 18-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demos.

  1. Hi Philip, thanks for the ratings post. Is there any possibility of posting up the complete ratings lists like you use too and at a daily frequency please? I understand you have other commitments and running this blog is a hobby.

  2. Thanks for your support, Leo. I’m not sure what you mean by “complete ratings lists”. Are you referring to the top 20 tables in the key demos? Or the briefings I originally ran that were narrative- rather than chart-driven? As you can see, I’m still tinkering with the format. Compiling and analysing daily ratings is incredibly time consuming and I’m afraid that based on readership to date of the new service, the demand for this just isn’t there. Interest would build if I could do this daily. But periodic rather than daily coverage is the cost of sourcing these figures unofficially. If anyone has any thoughts on how ratings coverage could be improved, subject to the limitations I face in accessing the data, please let me know.

  3. Hi Philip thanks for the reply. I was referring to the top 20 data which was compiled and how it was better in my opinion to see the full list of rating shows. I understand the difficulties and complexities of sourcing and publishing the ratings data. I believe a daily ratings thread on here would be useful and help drive traffic to the site, especially from TV buffs like myself. I also just want to say thanks for being the only accessible blog to publish ratings info and appreciate your hard work and commitment to your readers.

  4. Appreciate your generous comments and thoughtful suggestions, Leo.
