Sky Disney Deal Delivers 24/7 HD

Family movies will abound in HD next month on Sky, with the launch of the Disney movies channel and the return of the pop-up family movies channel.

The latter runs from July 4-19 0n Channel 038 and will include the premieres of The Boxtrolls, Mr Peabody & Sherman and The Lego Movie as well as perennials like Ice Age, the Free Willy franchise and Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

The Disney schedule, which goes live on July 1 and will screen 24 hours a day in HD, will boast content that’s 99% new to Sky, the chief exceptions being Maleficent, Muppets Most Wanted, Frozen, Monsters University and Planes.

Highlights range from cinema classics like Cinderella (1950), PinnochioMary Poppins and 101 Dalmatians, to new releases like Planes 2: Fire & Rescue, and direct-to-DVD sequels like The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning and Cinderella III: Twist in Time.

The new Disney channel will be available on the movie tier and is part of Sky’s new long-term deal with The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand that includes subscription TV and subscription video on demand rights to upcoming films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm, including Marvel’s Avengers: Age of UltronCinderellaInside Out and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
