Sky to Offer Free SoHo Weekend

All Sky subscribers will be able to access the SoHo channel for free from February 10-13.

The paycaster has shrewdly programmed that weekend as an HD sampler of what the HBO-style channel has to offer, with a savvy mix of series premieres that could tempt casual viewers to subscribe.

It will include the first four episodes of Hell on Wheels, which begins this Sunday at 8.30, as well as the opening episodes of three new dramas: Luck, Strike Back and The Shadow Line (as reported previously).

Season one of The Sopranos will be that weekend’s Box Set while the SoHo Cinema attraction is the outstanding Recount.

Newcomers to SoHo also will be able to get a taste of Boss, Treme, Camelot and How to Make It In America over that weekend, which runs from 1.15pm Friday to midnight Monday.

Sky says the promotion will provide “over 80 hours of premium entertainment for free” – but if you’re among the early adopters who have helped to make SoHo the success it is, don’t expect a discount on your February bill.

A month after SoHo’s launch, Sky’s director of marketing, Michael Watson, told ScreenScribe.tv: “We had high expectations but have been blown away by the number of pre-subscribers for SoHo.

“So far we have seen minimal impact on other tiers.”

  1. Now if they were to unencrypt it on the D1 satellite feed that would truly be a free weekend.
