SoHo Rounds Up Westworld for VIP Premiere

SoHo has confirmed Westworld will screen here the same time that it does in the US.

The futuristic HBO thriller will premiere 2pm on October 3 where, like Game of Thrones, it will screen first every week ahead of its 8.30 Monday showcasing in the channel’s Very Important Programme slot.

Inspired by the 1973 movie of Michael Crichton’s book, it’s dubbed “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin, exploring a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or deprived, can be indulged”.

Anthony Hopkins heads a cast that includes Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright and Tessa Thompson.

“The budget is somewhere in the region of $US55 million, and the producers promise a series full of the sex and violence we’ve come to expect from the home of Game of Thrones,” The Telegraph reports.

“But HBO’s version is unlikely to be as technologically advanced, blazingly original and influential as Crichton’s film.”

Quips Empire about the just-released poster: “The poster puts the emphasis on the show’s sci-fi elements, offering up the playful tagline ‘Every hero has a code’.

“We’re not sure it’s the heroes who have the coding issues in this one: looks likely that the heroes will be the ones frantically calling IT when the A.I.s in Westworld theme park start to go rogue.”

For SoHo, the timing of Westworld’s premiere couldn’t be better given it wants a signature show to mark the premium drama channel’s fifth anniversary.
