Still Not Clear When Going Clear Will Air Here

One of the best documentary series in years, HBO’s The Jinx, today can be streamed (albeit only in SD) on Sky’s Neon service.

It originally aired in HD on SoHo but don’t expect to see the next HBO sensation, Going Clear, on SoHo or Neon this year.

The Scientology expose screened to rave reviews this month on HBO in the US, where it was the channel’s most-watched documentary premiere in a decade.

But here and in Australia the rights have been acquired not by Sky under its deal with HBO but by Madman Entertainment.

It’s a major indie label that specialises in documentaries and arthouse movies, which means Going Clear could be destined for Sky’s SD Rialto channel rather than SoHo.

But first it will probably have a theatrical run ahead of a DVD release (Blu-ray isn’t likely for such a niche title in this market).

Madman Entertainment has yet to formally announce the deal but the earliest we can expect to see Going Clear at the multiplex will be mid-year, when chances are it will be rolled out on the NZ International Film Festival circuit.
