Tonight in HD: February 2

SoHo Highlight: Treme (Sky 10, 9.30, 5.1) LaDonna confronts the return of the crime problem; Sofia channels her father’s YouTube rants; Toni takes the Abreu case; Janette and Albert apply for Road Home money; Sonny barely escapes arrest. “The return of crime to New Orleans is one of the key subjects of Treme season two,” notes critic Alan Sepinwall, “but even with the addition of Lt Colson (David Morse, above) to the regular cast of characters, the topic has still been something of an abstraction so far. Colson can talk about it, and Sonny might be witness to a club shooting, but crime hadn’t really touched the lives of our regulars in the first two episodes. Unfortunately, that changes in a big way with On Your Way Down, as the crime wave very much hits home for several characters.” ✭✭✭✭✭

Chuck (TV2, 10.30) Double-episode season finale: It’s Chuck and Sarah’s wedding — will the mother-of-the-groom make it to the ceremony on time and alive? Chuck’s just ended its five-year run in the US, where it went out on a ratings high. ✭✭✭✭

Friends (TV2, 6.30, R) Ross must choose between Rachel and Julie. So Joey and Chandler help him to make a list of the pros and cons of each woman. ✭✭✭✭

Shortland Street (TV2, 7.00) Good advice wins Chris brownie points; Ula’s secret is becoming a burden; Wendy fails to be a team player. ✭✭✭

Diplomatic Immunity (TV One, 11.45, R) Comedy about the misadventures at the consulate of The Most Royal Kingdom of Feausi. ✭✭✭

Mental (TV3, 12.40, 5.1) A patient returns with worsening OCD and Tourette’s syndrome, and his wife pushes for unproven brain surgery, leading the team to suspect that the wife has her own issues. ✭✭

Sky Movies Greats Premiere: Man in the Iron Mask (Sky 22, 8.30, 5.1) The best Musketeers romp yet brings Athos, Porthos and Aramis out of retirement to challenge not only the corrupt King Louis XIV but also the monarch’s most loyal lieutenant, their old mate D’Artagnan. Throw in a good twin-bad twin twist, some earthy humour and high-spirited high adventure, and you have a swashbuckler to die for. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, Gerard Depardieu and Gabriel Byrne star. (1998) ✭✭✭✭

  1. Good double Chuck spoilt by TVNZ’s continual Dolby Digital debacle: first episode was in 5.1, second was stereo only. Get with the programme, TVNZ!
