Top HBO Docuseries TVNZ Bound

TVNZ has secured the acclaimed HBO documentary series The Case Against Adnan Syed for its OnDemand platform.

The true-crime spin-off from the Serial podcast claims to uncover “new evidence and perspectives” that present an alternative take on Syed’s conviction for the the 20-year-old murder of a Baltimore high school student.

Like another recent TVNZ acquisition, Leaving Neverland, it screened on HBO in the US (and Sky Atlantic in the UK) but here has been picked up in a distribution deal that falls outside of Sky’s HBO license.

“If you listened to Serial, some of this will seem repetitive, but by no means all of it,” said The Australian.

“And if you didn’t, the series will give you everything you need to understand the phenomenal impact the podcast had.”

The Hollywood Reporter said it “isn’t as compulsively devourable as the Serial podcast, but it does a much better job of giving voice to Hae Min Lee as an important part of Adnan Syed’s story.”

The Case Against Adnan Syed will stream from May 1. Also coming to TVNZ OnDemand are season two of conspiracy thriller Deep State and the premiere of The Red Line (both weekly from April 29) while already on the platform is the CBS All Access reboot of The Twilight Zone.
