TV2 Temporarily Loses Voice

TV2’s schedule has been upended by The Voice Australia going to air a week later than thought across the Tasman.

Channel Nine changed the launch date to May 4 so it wouldn’t clash with the season finale of Seven’s My Kitchen Rules, which means it won’t debut here until May 9.

Although TV2 will air the premiere within days of its Oz-cast, the gap will widen with subsequent episodes: Nine initially will air the show four nights a week whereas TV2 has scheduled it only for two.

Moreover, it’s not yet clear if TV2 will screen the show in HD.

Although the previous season wasn’t in 1080i, the same was true of My Kitchen Rules — and that has been upgraded to HD for its season premiere on May 5.

But TV2 can’t confirm The Voice Australia’s tech specs until it’s delivered.

Having to delay its premiere by a week highlights the vulnerability of NZ networks to events beyond their control when an offshore broadcaster changes its plans.

As a result, TV2 will re-run The Middle and The Big Bang Theory as a 7.30 double-bill on Friday, and bring forward the network movie premiere of Joyful Noise to 8.30.

Saturday’s Voice will be replaced by a re-run of the movie, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
