TV3 to Continue Simpsons in 2016

TV3’s new-season schedule is still under wraps but the network has confirmed that re-runs of The Simpsons will continue.

It’s about to repeat season 25 again in HD in the 5.30 Saturday slot while SD re-runs will remain a mainstay on TV4, where the ‘toon is stripped 7.00 weeknights (s25 ends this week and s23 begins next week).

It’s unclear which earlier episodes TVNZ has acquired in addition to those going forward from s27.

The broadcaster says its back-catalogue acquisition is still confidential and won’t be announced until later — which suggests TV2’s re-runs won’t kick in for some time yet.

TV3 won’t disclose the end dates for The Simpsons but says: “Re-runs of the series will stay on TV3 and Four.”

S26, which TV4 aired last year, has still to debut in HD on TV3.

In the meantime, here’s what you can expect to see on TV3 within the next few weeks: The BlacklistChicago PD, Grand Designs7 DaysJono and BenThe Bachelor NZ and new episodes of The Graham Norton Show.

Curiously, TV3 appears to be delaying its new-season roll-out until February, which will give TVNZ a head-start with new series like Quantico, The X-Files, Code Black, Blindspot and Our First Home about to launch.

That may reflect MediaWorks’ weaker inventory post-TVNZ’s Fox deal, which was struck on the back of high ratings for Fox’s Empire on TV2 and cements stronger ties between the broadcaster and distributor.

TV3’s other 2016 highlights will include:
