TVNZ OnDemand Adds The Victim

Widely acclaimed BBC thriller The Victim will be available to stream as a complete series on TVNZ OnDemand from May 27.

It stars Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire) as a grieving mother who accuses online the man she suspects killed her son.

But is he a notorious child murderer or a victim of mistaken identity?

“Grab a drink and settle in for a gripping, vicious thriller,” said The Guardian of the four-part series that debuted last month in the UK.

It is a drama that resonates with its time by asking what constitutes a victim and how much leeway we allow in bestowing that status. Do they have to be perfect? How sure do we have to be? And what happens when the perpetrator becomes a victim too, of a different kind?

The Independent said The Victim echoes the James Bulger story and described it as “a nuanced and well-crafted legal drama by writer Rob Williams, who has previously worked on Killing Eve and The Man in the High Castle.”

“I thought it was going to be hard work, yet another heart-rending drama about someone who has lost a family member, written by a person from Northampton who thinks he’s Bertolt Brecht,” said The Times.

“But in spite of my misgivings, it’s the best thing on this week: pacy and gripping, with all the cast under strict instructions not to go overboard. I watched the whole thing in nearly one sitting.”

  1. I’m sorry to ask, but I can’t find any information. I’m sure that Agents of Shield was on TVNZ OnDemand, but I can’t find who owns it now. Could anyone point me in the right direction, please?

  2. Good point, Darren. Normally OnDemand fast-tracks it. S6 has just gone to air in the US so you would think it would be up on the platform. S5 is about to end on TVNZ 2 but the network doesn’t appear to be continuing with S6 in the same late-night slot. Will see what I can find out …

  3. TVNZ has confirmed it’s dropped Agents of SHIELD from its schedules. So it may resurface on Sky or another streaming service.

  4. Thank you for looking into it, I guess I’ll just have to use the old tried and tested way of acquiring shows …
