Undateables Unbeatable

TVNZ 2 has found the perfect match for Monday nights: My Kitchen Rules and The Undateables.

Double-billing the two has helped it to sew up the 7.30-9.45 zone, with the duo winning the two hour-plus block in three of the four core commercial demographics.

The Undateables averaged 4.7% of 25-54s, 4.2% of 18-49s and 4.1% of 18-39s.

Compare that to the previous week, when Life in Pieces averaged 2.5% of 25-54s and 18-49s, and 2.3% of 18-39s, and The Mick 2.4%, 2.3% and 1.9% respectively.

Undateables did have the advantage of launching off the back of a hotter-than-ever MKR, which over the course of last week out-rated Three’s The Bachelor NZ and Married at First Sight Australia in the key demos.

Undateables’ popularity hurt both TVNZ 1’s APB and Three’s The Wrong Girl.

The latter won the hour among household shoppers with kids and out-rated APB in all the key demos but was down half-a-rating point with 25-54s (2.9%).

The news was better for Three at 9.45, when Chicago Med won the hour in the 25-54, 18-49 and HHS/k demos.

TVNZ 2’s The Walking Dead limped on with 1.3% – 2.1% of the core demos, which was still enough to out-run TVNZ 1’s Blindspot (1.0% – 1.8%).

However, APB did improve from 2.0% of 25-54s the previous Monday to 2.8%, thanks to a stronger lead-in: the season premiere of Highway Cops, which averaged 6.2% of this demo compared to the previous week’s 3.3% for Mind Over Money With Nigel Latta.

Fair Go was also stronger, on 6.9% of 25-54s, up 2.2 rating points week-on-week.

Yet a sharper 7.30 block is even more reason for TVNZ 1 to overhaul 8.30-10.30 Mondays, with both of its crime dramas shedding too many viewers to justify their primetime slots.
