Vanity Fair to Screen on TVNZ

TVNZ has bought the ITV costume drama Vanity Fair at the MIPTV market.

The seven-part series, which is an Amazon Studios co-production with Mammoth Screen (Victoria, Poldark), stars Bates Motel’s Olivia Cooke as the heroine of  William Makepeace Thackeray’s literary classic, which was published 170 years ago.

Martin Clunes, Suranne Jones, Michael Palin and Penny Dreadful’s Simon Russell Beale co-star.

Vanity Fair was produced by War & Peace’s Julia Stannard, directed by James Strong (Liar, Broadchurch), and scripted by Gwyneth Hughes (Five Days).

The series was one of the most highly touted at the market. The last time Vanity Fair was adapted for TV was 20 years ago, for the BBC.

Hopefully, it will be a TVNZ 1 priority rather than an on-demand exclusive like The Last Post.
