HDTV Ratings: NZ’s Next Top Model, Juno

TV3’s HD combo of NZ’s Next Top Model and the movie, Juno, helped the network to win Friday night’s ratings contest.

The season-two launch of Model attracted 9.1% of TV3’s target audience, 18-49 year-olds, and the free-to-air premiere of Juno, 10.9%.

Model ranked behind TV2’s comedy duo, Two and a Half Men and Gary Unmarried, but Juno walloped The Bachelor, drawing twice the viewership.

With TV2’s core demo, 18-39 year-olds, the results were similar; meanwhile, the NZ Herald admitted to being just as “hooked” on Model.

Earlier last week, episode three of TV One’s Thursday newcomer, This Is Not My Life, held its own and TV3’s  crime hit, Lie to Me, made a strong return on Wednesday.

While TV3’s Outrageous Fortune continues to dwarf the competition on Tuesday nights, it will be interesting to see if it bounces back after last week’s dip — or if its up-and-down ratings reflect Dominion Post critic Jane Bowron’s view, that the show is “playing for cheap laughs while our attachment to the West family loosens its hold”.
