Louis Vuitton Preliminary Regatta pulls big, highly engaged audiences for Three and ThreeNow
AUCKLAND – 30 August 2024: The numbers are in for last weekend’s Louis Vuitton Preliminary Regatta, with 500,000 viewers tuning in on Three* and an additional 194,000 streams on ThreeNow**.
Warner Bros. Discovery and Stuff have teamed up with Emirates Team New Zealand to bring audiences live and on demand coverage of the America’s Cup.
Together with broadcast partner Toyota, viewers are able to follow every race of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup, as well as the Louis Vuitton Preliminary Regatta, Louis Vuitton Cup (now underway), Puig Women’s America’s Cup and UniCredit Youth America’s Cup.
“There’s lots to celebrate at Warner Bros. Discovery this week, with Emirates Team New Zealand winning the Louis Vuitton Preliminary Regatta, and big, highly engaged audiences across the country watching it all happen on Three and ThreeNow,” says Warner Bros. Discovery VP Head of Networks ANZ Juliet Peterson.
“We’ve had excellent viewership so far, and with the Louis Vuitton Cup now underway, we are looking forward to another two months of great sailing, and even stronger audiences.”
The coverage of the Louis Vuitton Preliminary Regatta (August 22 – 25) saw 1,500 new registrations on ThreeNow.
Almost three quarters of the ThreeNow sailing audience opted to view at a time that suited them by watching on demand, while a keen 28% of the audience stayed up to stream the racing live.
On Three, the breakfast replays of the racing from 7am reached an average 110,000 viewers, while the daily highlights reached an average of 50,000 people***.
“This past weekend was not only great for our viewers on Three and ThreeNow, but also for our commercial partners,” says James Hole, WBD Senior Director, Revenue ANZ.
“Almost all of our advertising inventory around the sailing has been sold, with only one commercial pack still up for grabs.
“With four big regattas still to come, we are looking forward to delivering more big audiences for these businesses.”

I’ve been recording the live midnite feed via Sky. Problem is sometimes the recoding ends before the race finishes, then I have to to 3Now and sit thru the ads to get to where I want. — Paul W.
Yeah, I’ve had to extend the recording by the obligatory 20 mins to ensure I catch the end. Mind you thats almost the default action given plenty of TVNZ/Three programmes start up to 7 mins late and the final minutes get chopped when recording. — Mike.
