Apple TV+ Hails Chief of War

Apple TV+ has released the trailer for its promising historical drama Chief of War starring Jason Momoa, Temuera Morrison and Cliff Curtis.

Momoa also co-wrote and executive produced the true life-inspired epic, which  follows Hawaiian warrior Ka‘iana (Momoa) as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonisation in the late 18th century.

Told from an indigenous perspective, Chief of War is “a passion project” for creators Momoa and Thomas Pa‘a Sibbett, who share native Hawaiian heritage.

The nine-part series features a predominantly Polynesian cast, including Luciane Buchanan, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, newcomer Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale‘o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, Te Kohe Tuhaka and Benjamin Hoetjes.

The first two episodes debut on August 1, with the rest rolling out weekly through September 19.

Apple TV+ also has released the trailer for S4 of The Morning Show, which streams from September 17. It opens in spring 2024, almost two years after the events of S3. Reads the blurb:

With the UBA-NBN merger complete, the newsroom must grapple with newfound responsibility, hidden motives and the elusive nature of truth in a polarised America. In a world rife with deepfakes, conspiracy theories and corporate cover-ups — who can you trust? And how can you know what’s actually real?

In other Apple TV+ news, spy favourite Slow Horses has been renewed for a seventh season two months ahead of S5’s September 24 premiere.

And sci-fi drama Invasion returns for its S3 run on August 22 (see trailer here), when, for the first time, the series’ main characters are brought together to work as a team on a critical mission to infiltrate the alien mothership. Reads the blurb:

The ultimate apex aliens have finally emerged, rapidly spreading their deadly tendrils across our planet. It will take all our heroes working together, using all their experience and expertise, to save our species. New relationships are formed, old relationship are challenged and even shattered, as our international cast of characters must become a team before it’s too late.
