Due on Blu: Devil

Universal Pictures will release Devil on Blu-ray on April 6.

Based on an M Night Shyamalan story, it concerns a group of people trapped in a lift with the Devil in disguise.

Some critics gave the HD video hell.

High-Def Digest thought the HD audio outstanding but rated the transfer only 2.5/5, dubbing it “less than pretty

“The film may be 100 percent authentic and accurate to its source, but it does not translate all that well in high def.”

But DVD Verdict marked the transfer 95/100: “The colours are all well saturated and the black levels are solid.

“While this isn’t going to pop out and grab you like some other big budget affairs, overall what fans get is a very good looking image.”

DVD Beaver said Devil has “a solid bitrate. It’s thick and heavy – very film like and not always supporting pristinely crisp visuals.

“Purposely dark (what lies in those shadows?) with rich black levels the 1080P image quality looks solid via the VC-1 encode.”

The only extras will be four minutes of deleted scenes and three two-minute making-of shorts.
