TVNZ announces new multi-year content deal with Sony Pictures Television

TVNZ and Sony Pictures Television (SPT) today announced an extensive, multi-year deal for the distribution of international features and premium series across TVNZ+ and TVNZ’s free-to-air channels.

The deal sees over 100 of Sony Pictures’ recently released feature films finding a home on TVNZ including Spider-Man: No Way Home (in late 2023 following the film’s home entertainment and pay one windows) and classic movies like The Karate Kid, Ghostbusters and the Charlie’s Angels franchise – further bolstering TVNZ’s significant classic movie offering.

A number of new premium international shows will premiere on TVNZ’s platforms, including the highly anticipated Cold War drama starring Damian Lewis, A Spy Among Friends, Susan Sarandon’s new musical drama Monarch and gripping British thriller Without Sin, led by Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure.

Popular shows such as Community, The Goldbergs, Hannibal and Snatch add to TVNZ’s substantial collection of full seasons, giving viewers the chance to discover much-loved series for the first time, or revisit old favourites.

TVNZ’s Director of Content Cate Slater says, “We are thrilled to announce this deal with Sony Pictures, and further extend our offering of blockbuster international content. With more than 100 movies landing on TVNZ alongside brand-new and cult-classic series, there truly is something for everyone here.

“This agreement adds to the huge variety of content available across TVNZ’s platforms and drives forward our goal of keeping all of our viewers needs served, however they want to watch our content.”

“We’re excited to continue our long-standing relationship with TVNZ, a fantastic home for some of the most exciting new SPT series to hit the global marketplace as well Sony Pictures’ robust slate of box office hits,” said Mike Wald, EVP, Distribution & Networks, Sony Pictures Entertainment.

SPT titles including A Spy Among Friends, Without Sin and Monarch, will roll out on TVNZ later this year.

It’s interesting that Disney and TVNZ have both got a deal with Sony. I assume they are allowed to do that 🤔

  2. I guess this is what comes of Discovery and WarnerMedia getting together. Every WarnerMedia competitor wants to find a home with an independent party…..
