Academy on Demand Delayed
The launch of indie streaming service Academy on Demand has been delayed until next week — but the founders hope to offer twice as many titles.
The platform was meant to go live today, with an eclectic mix of art house, independent and vaguely classic movies.
But this afternoon, in a letter to customers and media, Academy Cinemas’ Head of Programming & Projection, Gorjan Markovski, said:
We have received such overwhelming interest from local distribution companies who want to join in, we are holding off on the launch to effectively double our catalogue of films.
We will work tirelessly through the weekend to add these new additions to the website, then we will launch early next week. We will send out another email to you then with a full list of titles.
Most of the 70+ movies will be in HD, with rental price points of $4.99 and $7.99 for seven days, and $5 Wednesday specials.
