Apple TV+ Marches Out Manhunt

Apple TV+ will stream its latest period drama, Manhunt, from March 15.

The limited series is billed as “a conspiracy thriller about one of the best known but least understood crimes in history, the astonishing story of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination”.

It’s based on the award-winning book by James L Swanson and stars Tobias Menzies (The Crown, Game of Thrones), Anthony Boyle (The Plot Against America), Lovie Simone (Greenleaf), Will Harrison (Daisy Jones & The Six), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Damian O’Hare (Hatfields & McCoys), Glenn Morshower (The Resident), Patton Oswalt (A.P. Bio), Matt Walsh (Veep) and Hamish Linklater (The Big Short).

The seven-part adaptation will land with two episodes, which Carl Franklin (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) directed, with a new instalment rolling out weekly.

Also due in March on Apple TV+ is Palm Royale, a Palm Beach-set series starring Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, Kaia Gerber, Bruce Dern and Carol Burnett.

It’s based on the novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie and will launch with three episodes on March 20. Reads the blurb:

Palm Royale is a true underdog story that follows Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig) as she endeavours to break into Palm Beach high society. As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, Palm Royale asks the same question that still baffles us today: “How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?” Set during the powder keg year of 1969, Palm Royale is a testament to every outsider fighting for their chance to truly belong.

All eight episodes of another Apple TV+ series, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, will land on February 2.

It stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as lonely strangers who enter into an arranged marriage so they can spy for a mysterious agency — only to fall in love. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?
