At Last — Wentworth Wins HD Release on Appeal
Hit Aussie prison drama Wentworth will break out on Blu-ray on November 18.
The series, which TV2 airs Monday nights in SD, will be released as a three-disc Blu-ray set (five-disc DVD) with more than two hours of extras.
A modern re-imagning of Prisoner, it ends its broadcast run on August 5, with filming of a second series due to start later this year.
“We are delighted that we will be first to the home entertainment market, alongside the UK release, with the most anticipated Australian TV series this year,” distributor Darrien Puddy, of Shock Entertainment, says.
“We wanted to give Australian and New Zealand fans the earliest possible opportunity to get their hands on this incredible show.”
Wentworth stars Kiwis Danielle McCormack, Robbie Magasiva and Aaron Jeffrey, and has been critically acclaimed, with the Sunday Age dubbing it “wonderfully moody and menacing” and The Australian, “stylised and glossy, violent and intelligent”.
The premiere won its time slot on TV2 and two months on the series remains popular, with this week’s episode averaging 6.0% – 10.9% of the key demographics to largely lock out the competition.
