Big Mac Gets Big Heave

TVNZ 2 is pulling Michael McIntyre’s Big Show from 8.30 Wednesdays.

The chat show was meant to resume in the slot tomorrow night, with Have You been Paying Attention? returning to its original 7.30 Wednesday berth.

But today the network announced MMBS was being dropped for new episodes of 8 Out of 10 Cats does Countdown.

No explanation was provided other than, “Michael McIntyre’s Big Show Season 5 will no longer be playing.”

It’s probable the network felt MMBS was too weak to compete against the last half-hour of Three’s top-rating Married at First Sight Australia, which last Wednesday outrated HYBPT? in all the key demos when it aired at 8.30 and helped lead-out Lost & Found to dominate the 9.00 hour.

TVNZ 2’s also dropping the 6.00 Sunday re-run of The Simpsons from this weekend and replacing it with repeats of The Big Bang Theory.

Hi Philip, that’s interesting … do you know how TVNZ’s The Bachelorette is rating versus Three’s Married at First Sight AU?

  2. Hi Kevin. They’re often neck-and-neck. Hope to post an analysis this weekend.

  3. Will there be any updates on when TVNZ will bring an updated Wentworth season 8?

  4. I imagine it will be mid-year, Patrick. Its return is imminent in Australia but the exact date — sometime in June — has yet to be announced. Given TVNZ is going to face supply issues with some international content because of Covid-19, it may screen here within days of Oz. Chances are it would have, anyway, because of the heightened interest in this being the penultimate season.
