Birds of Paradise to Land This Month

Amazon Prime Video will premiere Birds of Paradise, a movie about two students at an elite Parisian ballet academy competing to join the Opéra National de Paris, on September 24.

Based on the book “Bright Burning Stars” by A.K. Small, it stars Diana Silvers, Kristine Froseth and Jacqueline Bisset. Reads the blurb:

Kate Sanders is an ambitious and gifted, if tomboyish, aspiring ballerina from Virginia who, because of her low-income status, is given a scholarship to attend a prestigious ballet school in Paris, France. Upon arriving at the cutthroat, internationally-renowned institution, her confidence and emotional fortitude are tested by a beautiful, mysterious fellow dancer, Marine Durand, who recently lost her brother (and dance partner) to suicide. While confrontational at first, Kate and Marine’s relationship evolves into an emotionally-charged, competitive union beset by lies, sexual awakening and, ultimately, emotional breakthrough as they risk everything to win the school’s ultimate prize: a contract to join the Opéra National de Paris.

The streaming service also has released the trailer for season two of Star Trek: Picard, which will launch with the first of 10 episodes in February 2022.

The trailer includes a first look of the Borg Queen (Annie Wersching) and was introduced by Sir Patrick Stewart at the global livestreamed celebration of the 55th anniversary of the original Star Trek series on 8 September 1966.

Stewart confirmed there would be a S3 and was joined on the Will Wheaton-moderated Star Trek: Picard panel by co-star Jeri Ryan, and co-showrunner and executive producer Akiva Goldsman.

Amazon Prime Video also has released the trailer for the December 10 premiere of Encounter, in which a decorated Marine goes on a rescue mission to save his two young sons from an ‘unhuman’ threat.

Michael Pearce directs Riz Ahmed, Octavia Spencer, Rory Cochrane, Lucian-River Chauhan and Aditya Geddada.
