Blu-ray Alert: August Highlights

Saving Private Ryan, Patton and the TV series, World War II in Colour & HD, rank among August’s most commanding Blu-ray releases.

It’s a big month for classics generally, with The Magnificent Seven and Man With No Name movies also being rounded up on HD, along with The French Connection duo, Raging Bull, La Femme Nikita and A Room With a View.

For the first time you’ll be able to buy The Godfather movies separately on Blu-ray, Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile as a double-bill, The Lord of the Rings trilogy in a box set with extras, and the Die Hard Quadrilogy for under $100 (with a bonus game disc).

Hot off the theatrical circuit will be Kick-Ass, The Bounty Hunter, Clash of the Titans, The Road and Book of Eli.

In order of their retail debut will be:

August 4: Doctor Who: Season 5, Volume 2, The Last Song, The Bounty Hunter, Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang, Nanny McPhee/Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang, The Godfather Part I, II and III, Carlito’s Way, Dante’s Peak, and special editions of Collateral, Saving Private Ryan, War of the Worlds and Total Recall.

August 11: The Road, Cop Out, Edge of Darkness, Clash of the Titans, Infestation, After.Life, The Crazies, The Rebound, Solitary Man, The Lord of the Rings, Underbelly (series one), South Park: Season 12.

August 12: La Femme Nikita, Leon: The Professional, How to Make Love to a Woman, Ponyo.

August 16: World War II In Colour & HD

August 18: Date Night, Kick-Ass.

August 19: Ip Man 2, A Room With a View.
