Blu-ray Alert: March 12-18

After two, back-to-back weeks of bumper Blu-ray slates, only a handful of titles is being released in HD this week.

Dwarfing the competition will be the doomsday blockbuster, 2012, which debuts on Wednesday in standard and steelbook packaging.

But in both cases it will be a single disc only, whereas the US edition, which went on sale last week and topped DVD and Blu-ray sales charts, has two discs, albeit with the same extras (plus a third disc with a digital copy).

They include an interactive Mayan calendar, a picture-in-picture commentary by director Roland Emmerich, a separate commentary by Emmerich and co-writer Harald Kloser, deleted scenes, an alternate ending, and shorts on Designing the End of the World, Roland Emmerich: The Master of the Modern Epic, Science Behind the Destruction and The End of the World: The Actor’s Perspective.

Out the same day are Torchwood: Children of the Earth and Space Buddies, with [REC] 2 and Storm Warriors due on Thursday.
