Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn describes his second movie as “The Princess Bride meets Midnight Run” – and that’s not merely because it stars Robert De Niro as you’ve never seen him. It’s a funny, fractured fairy tale for grown-ups that never stops surprising or enthralling with its magic, romance and special effects (most of which weren’t computer-generated). About a naïve young shop boy (newcomer Charlie Cox) who has to outwit witches, princes and sky pirates to win the heart of a fallen star (Claire Danes), it beggars capsule description but delights in virtually every respect, particularly the novel casting – Michelle Pfeiffer’s witch of Eastwick was no match for the desperate-to-save-her-looks sorceress she plays here. Extras include a superior making-of half-hour, five deleted scenes and a gag reel that were on the original Blu-ray — plus a commentary by Vaughn and his co-scribe, Jane Goldman, who also wrote Kick-Ass with him.
