Boardwalk Empire to Bow on October 2

Steve Buscemi

Sky TV will screen the new HD gangster drama from HBO, Boardwalk Empire, two weeks after its September 19 launch in the US.

The 12-part adaptation of Nelson Johnson’s book about the development of Atlantic City during the Prohibition era will air here 8.30pm Saturdays, on Sky Movies, from October 2.

But because it will be screening so close to the US, Sky Movies isn’t scheduling the miniseries in double-episodes, as it did with Deadwood and Over There.

The Daily Beast has just published this insight into Boardwalk Empire, which it argues is HBO’s bid “to create a crime thriller that measures up to The Wire and The Sopranos“.

It stars Steve Buscemi, who was on The Sopranos, and is from former Sopranos scribe, Terence Winter.

Meanwhile, the first season of The Sopranos will be released here on Blu-ray, on October 13, for $40.
