Bro’Town to go HD? RadiRadiRah!

RadiRadiRah, TV3’s new sketch comedy from the creators of bro’Town, will screen in HD – and it’s possible bro’Town could get an HD redux.

Although the network isn’t promoting RadiRadiRah as an HD attraction, producer Elizabeth Mitchell, of Firehorse Films, has confirmed it will be.

“It’s only some of the animated promo material we’ve delivered to TV3 that’s in SD,” she told ScreenScribe.tv. “The show will definitely be delivered in HD.”

The eight-part series starts on Friday, as the 9.30pm lead-in to 7 Days, and stars the cream of Kiwi comedy talent: Rhys Darby, Taika Waititi, Oscar Kightley, David Fane, Shimpal Lelisi, Mario Gaoa, Madeleine Sami and Teuila Blakely.

There also will be guest turns by Jemaine Clement and John Clarke.

Asked if Firehorse Films planned to convert bro’Town to HD, as 20th Century Fox is doing with The Simpsons, Mitchell says she was unaware of the process but “am sure we’d consider it.”

Bro’Town was one of the world’s first cartoon series to be made in widescreen, a feat The Simpsons didn’t match until it went HD in season 20.

But Fox plans to offer earlier SD seasons on Blu-ray, starting with the 13th, which apparently is when the series started to be animated digitally.

The Blu-rays of the SD seasons will retain the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio but will be in HD with DTS HD Master Audio.

Season 13 goes on sale in the US in August and should land here a month or two later.
