Can Redemption Redeem Itself?

TVNZ 1’s Grand Designs UK ended its run on Sunday in winning form but new crime drama Redemption couldn’t capitalise on its lead-in.

The Kevin McCloud series averaged 2.76% of the network’s core commercial demographic, 25-54 year-olds, to earn a 19.56 share (or 56,589 viewers) and rank as the seventh most-watched programme of the night

It out-rated Three’s network movie premiere of The Gentlemen (2.21 rating/19.91 share) and TVNZ 2’s re-run of Mr & Mrs Smith (1.63/rating/15.86 share).

But lead-out Redemption could sustain only a third of its viewership. The series premiere averaged a 0.84 rating/8.83 share (or 17,290 viewers).

It also drew fewer adults than the previous week’s final of The Gone: 1.03 rating/13.55 share (or 21,199 viewers).

At 7.30, TVNZ 1’s Sunday (5.40 rating/28.55 share) led TVNZ 2’s MasterChef Australia (3.61 rating/19.58 share) and Three’s Lego Masters (2.71 rating/14.69 share).

The highest-rating 25-454 programmes of the night were: 1 News, Hyundai Country Calendar, Sunday, The Chase (5.30), Newshub Live at 6pm, MasterChef Australia, Grand Designs Revisited, Lego Masters, The Gentlemen and The Chase (5.00).

The biggest 25-54 channel shares of the night were: TVNZ 1, 31.26; Three, 18.94; TVNZ 2, 14.43; Bravo, 4.54; Duke, 3.97; Eden, 1.92; HGTV, 1.84; Rush, 1.09; Prime, 0.80.

On Saturday, TVNZ 1’s The Great British Bake-Off (3.27 rating/22.14 share) topped TVNZ 2’s Booze Patrol Australia (2.27 rating/14.72 share) and Three’s Gold Coast Ocean Rescue (1.37 rating/9.03 share).

TVNZ 2’s movie The Bourne Legacy dominated from 7.30 while TVNZ 1’s Ten Pound Poms trailed Three’s NCIS. — which set up NCIS: Los Angeles to win the 9.30 hour.

On Friday, TVNZ 2’s Britain’s Got Talent pipped TVNZ 1’s The Repair Shop at 7.30 but the latter’s stablemate The Dog House won the 8.30 hour.

    Ouch even little watched HGTV outrated Prime on Sunday even though they had The White Lotus. Something needs to be done to arrest its falling ratings. It should the very least be coming fourth behind the big 3 channels.
