Diary New Time for Once Upon a …
TV2 is radically rescheduling the latest seasons of Once Upon a Time and The Vampire Diaries.
The former will air Saturday afternoons from July 2 and the latter will be stripped post-11pm Monday-Thursday from July 4.
It’s not surprising to see the fairy tale fantasy follow other low-rating series to TV2’s dead zone for primetime flops.
The network persevered with it in peak hour for four seasons before consigning it to 2pm Saturdays after fast-tracking it OnDemand.
The season-five premiere will be preceded by Dark Swan Rises: A Once Upon A Time Fan Celebration, a one-hour recap special with producer interviews and insights.
And from July 9, expect new episodes of The 100 to be Time’s lead-in.
More surprising than Time’s rescheduling is TV2’s enlivening of late-night with its Diaries strategy.
It continues a boldly experimental year for TVNZ, which has seen local drama Filthy Rich air twice-weekly, and UK dramas Doctor Foster and Happy Valley stripped across the week for binge-style consumption.
Another former primetime property returning off-peak is Scandal, season five of which will air midnight Tuesdays from July 5.

Will TV2 be screening the most recent series of The Originals shortly also?
I’d expect it to follow the same strategy as The Vampire Diaries once its run is completed.
