Disney+ Streaming New Simpsons

After public humiliation forces him to doubt his own intelligence, Homer forms an internet group devoted to solving the mystery behind the disappearance of a tortoise from the Springfield Zoo in the season 34 premiere.
Wahoo! Season 34 of The Simpsons has just landed on Disney+, bringing NZ users of the service up to date with Australia’s.
Until now, a legacy deal with TVNZ for The Simpsons meant Disney+ NZ lagged a year behind the platform in other territories.
But yesterday the S34 premiere dropped, meaning Kiwis are the closest they’ve ever been to the show’s US broadcast: about two-and-a-half weeks.
TVNZ never had digital rights to the series and forever fumbled its linear scheduling, delaying new episodes for months as it searched fruitlessly for an optimal slot.
While The Simpsons continues to be useful stripping fodder on TVNZ 2 and Duke, its primetime heyday here is long over (the most recent slot for first-run eps was 6.00 Mondays).
However, it seems the terms of TVNZ’s deal for new seasons haven’t completely expired: still missing from Disney+ NZ is S33.

It’s gone on far, far too long but imagine telling someone in 1990 that The Simpsons would still be going in 2022 and episodes would premiere on ‘computers’. Thanks for the update. There’s a new episode that is getting pretty decent reviews so I might watch that when it goes live.
It’s not just The Simpsons that are past retirement. South Park and Family Guy are overdue for retirement, too.
