GROUNDBREAKING RELATIONSHIP SERIES COMING TO NEW ZEALAND

Couples Therapy New Zealand to land in full on ThreeNow

27 April 2023 – In a New Zealand television first, Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ is proud to announce the complete season of Couples Therapy New Zealand is coming to Kiwi audiences on ThreeNow, Wednesday 17 May.

This is true documentary filmmaking that will bring viewers into the authentic and emotional experience of weekly counseling sessions.

Based on Paramount’s critically acclaimed global hit Couples Therapy, this unique “in the room” observational series follows the lives of five Kiwi couples who, in an attempt to save their relationships, turn to the support of Registered Psychotherapist Amanda Cox.

Amanda guides the couples through the minefield of honest confrontation with each other and with themselves, revealing the real-life struggles — and extraordinary breakthroughs — typically hidden behind closed doors.

Across ten intimate, heartwarming and at times confronting episodes, viewers have the privilege of sharing in each couples’ journey.  Filmed in a specially designed therapy room, each episode allows moments to unfold authentically in this premium documentary series, the unobtrusive approach to production prioritises the couples’ welfare above all else.

Viewers will witness the relationship highs, lows and breakthroughs never before experienced on New Zealand screens.

“I’m grateful to the brave couples who have shared their struggles and challenges with me through this process,” says Registered Psychotherapist Amanda Cox. “I hope that viewers who resonate with these challenges in the show can find hope in their stories.”

Couples Therapy New Zealand will bring viewers along through intimate fly on the wall moments in the therapy room as well as real everyday moments with the couples in their own homes.

As the stories of hope unfold, the tension builds across the series to the final moments: Will it be breakthrough, or break up?

“We’re incredibly proud to be partnering with Warner Bros International Television Production to bring this truly unique format to New Zealand audiences”, says Vicki Keogh, Senior Director Production, Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ.

“It’s lean-in, gripping television powered by real, relatable human emotion. Amanda’s depth of experience paired with her empathetic & insightful approach made her the perfect therapist to help these couples unpack their challenges and unlock the broader truths that lie beneath the surface.”

The complete season of Couples Therapy New Zealand will stream on ThreeNow from Wednesday 17 May, and on Three at 8.30pm, Wednesday 17 May.

The original U.S. doc-series, Couples Therapy, is produced by Edgeline Films for SHOWTIME®. The format rights are licensed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
