Due on Blu: I Am Number Four

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the Walt Disney sci-fi hit, I Am Number Four, on July 6.

Despite largely negative reviews, the DJ Caurso (Eagle Eye)-directed fantasy about a teen targeted in a conspiracy grossed nearly $US145 million worldwide (NZ accounted for 10.4% of the take, according to Box Office Mojo).

Blu-ray critics agreed with their theatrical brethren about the quality of the movie but thought HD specs distinguished the disc.

As DVD Verdict observed: “It appears as if all the effort was sucked from the story and finished film and set into this attractive, colourful picture.

“The detail present here is excellent, especially during daytime scenes. A lot of the film takes place in darkened corridors and evening settings (to save a bit on special effects, I’m sure) and often displays a great depth and texture found in the best Blu-ray transfers.

“Overall this is a great presentation for a very mediocre film … [with a] thrilling DTS-HD Master 5.1 audio mix that will blow your speakers away.”

Extras are limited to 19 minutes of deleted scenes, three minutes of bloopers and a making-of short.
