Due on Blu: March

Aliens, zombies, hobbits and jackasses dominate March’s mad-as-a-hatter Blu-ray slate.

The month opens with the re-release of Alien Anthology and continues with the Blu-ray 3D of Resident Evil: Afterlife, a repackaged Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the History Channel series, Ancient Aliens, and the MTV spin-off, Jackass 3.

Surprisingly, Paramount Pictures is releasing Jackass 3 not on Blu-ray 3D but in a triple pack with a 2D Blu-ray of the movie, a 3D DVD (with cardboard specs) and a digital copy.

As for the Rings release, it’s the same as the first box set, only with new art; fans waiting for the Extended Edition on Blu-ray can expect it later this year, The Digital Bits reckons.

March is shaping up as a bumper month for TV-on-Blu-ray, with everything from the latest Doctor Who Christmas special to sundry seasons of Top Gear, American Chopper, Man vs Wild, Chuck, Human Target and Smallville.

Also watch for Jean Lemire’s global warming documentaries, The Last Continent and Antarctic Mission; George Clooney’s latest, The American; Oscar-favourite The Social Network; Planes, Trains & Automobiles retread Due Date; the Buried alive thriller; the direct-to-Blu-ray Iraq War drama, The Messenger; Ben Affleck’s second feature as a director, The Town; and Roman Polanski’s first feature in five years, The Ghost Writer.

In order of release will be:

March 2 – The Social Network, Alien Anthology, Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D, Top Gear: The Complete Series 14, Doctor Who: The Christmas Special 2010 – A Christmas Carol.

March 9 – The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Chuck: The Complete Third Season, Human Target: Season 1, Smallville: The Complete Ninth Season, Buried, The Town, The Killer Inside Me, Paintball, Dead Space: Aftermath, 14 Blades.

March 10 – Ancient Aliens: Season 1, Antarctic Mission, The Last Continent, American Chopper: Senior vs Junior, Man vs Wild: Season Four, The Messenger, Dragon Ball Z Kai Collection 3, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Collection 3, Xam’d: Lost Memories Collection 1.

March 14 – WWE Raw: The Best of 2010.

March 16 – Jackass 3.

March 23 – The Ghost Writer, Due Date.

March 24 – The American.
