Due on Blu: World Without End

The sequel to Ken Follet’s The Pillars of the Earth, World Without End, will be released on Blu-ray in March.

The miniseries was first seen here in HD on SoHo, which was one of the first channels in the world to screen it.

It also was one of the last channels to air Pillars, which was released several months prior on DVD but not Blu-ray (although it’s for sale on the format in other territories).

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will offer the 389-minute sequel on two Blu-ray discs from March 13.

While extras have still to be confirmed, don’t expect more than a making-of half-hour.

According to a review of the US release, which went on sale in December: “World Without End debuts on Blu-ray with a striking high definition transfer that’s virtually flawless from beginning to end …

“This is nothing short of a brilliant transfer that exceeds all expectations.”

However, another critic was less fulsome: “Looks great when the image is performing at its best, so despite the occasional misfires, the overall verdict is that it’s quite good.”

Also due out on Blu-ray the same day from Sony is the 1992 baseball comedy, A League of Their Own.

They should release The Pillars of the Earth on Blu-ray as well 🙂

  2. World Without End was a great show. Very enjoyable. I imported Pillars of Earth on Blu-ray from the USA. Region free. Another excellent series and picture quality was great.
