Evil Dead to Liven Up The Zone

The series premiere of an Evil Dead spin-off and new episodes of zombie drama Z Nation make October a hallowed month on The Zone.

Sky’s sci-fi/fantasy/horror channel will launch Ash vs Evil Dead on October 31 — the same day as in the US.

The 10-part series is set 30 years after the original movie about a monster hunter and stars the same lead, Bruce Campbell (The Adventures of Brisco County Jr), who can also be seen as Ronald Reagan in the next season of Fargo on SoHo.

The director of the movie, Sam Raimi, also helmed the series premiere, which he co-wrote, and the cast includes Lucy Lawless, who Campbell starred with in Xena: Warrior Princess.

Like Xena, it was produced and shot in NZ, and if a hit, could spawn more Evil Dead movies.

“With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt,” Raimi said when the Starz (Black Sails) project was announced, “And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”

Another October highlight on The Zone is the season two premiere of Z Nation.

It picks up after the cliffhanger of last season’s final episode and will screen 9.30 Thursdays from October 15.
