Family-Sized Mom OnDemand
Mom is the latest fast-tracked sitcom to have all of its previous seasons online at the same time as the newest episodes.
Season five goes to air on TVNZ 2 on November 8 but fans can already view the previous seasons at tvnz.co.nz and will get the jump on season five from November 3, the same day as the US.
It joins The Big Bang Theory and the first fast-tracked drama series to have an earlier full season online, Lethal Weapon.
Expect to see more series showcased this way as part of TVNZ’s strategy to quadruple its online content.
Said TVNZ chief executive Kevin Kendrick at the new-season launch:
As well as our swathe of OnDemand exclusives, we’re now buying extended online rights to the full series that we have on air. Rather than people getting the traditional 30 days to catch up on their favourite broadcast show, they’ll have access to the entire broadcast of the series and in many cases much longer.
Online is a big part of our future. Four times more content will be made available to viewers OnDemand and we’ve added an additional 400 hours of content this month [September] alone.
Debuting online the same week as Mom will be:
➢ Acceptable Risk (November 1): “Ireland’s answer to The Killing”
➢ Stage School (November 1): The Only Way is Essex meets Glee meets High School Musical in a backstage look at an elite performing arts school
➢ Major Crimes (November 1): In the sixth and final season, Captain Sharon Raydor and her crew face their biggest challenge yet
Already online are full seasons of the yet-to-air Ken Burns documentary series The Vietnam War, Robbie Coltrane’s Critical Evidence, and Crow’s Blood.

I wonder if TVNZ are planning to put their On Demand on Apple TV, do you know Philip? Three is on there and it looks like Amazon Video will soon be on there YAY 🙂
You would think it would be an obvious platform, Trevor, but I know Apple can be a trying operator for broadcasters to deal with. There’s talk of Freeview offering a similar device to the innovation Vodafone and Sky unveiled this week, so stay tuned for an announcement within the next day or so.
Thanks, Philip, hopefully TVNZ will be on Apple TV soon 🙂
