Gone Fishing Goes Off-Peak

TVNZ 1’s Gone Fishing is being relegated to late-night after weeks of minnow ratings.

Tonight’s episode is the last that will air at 8.15; next week’s season finale has landed the much later slot of 10.20 — which is where S2 will screen thereafter.

Last week’s episode sunk to a season low of just 10,613 viewers in the coveted 25-54 demographic — which was nearly 15,000 fewer than lead-in The Great British Bake-off.

Three’s ITM Fishing Show at 7.00 lured three times as many 25-54 year-olds while Gone Fishing lead-out Dreams Kitchens and Bathrooms averaged 12,118.

Both were hammered by TVNZ 2’s movie The Meg (46,348 viewers) off the back of The Voice Australia (48,434 viewers) and Three’s The Switch (21,716 viewers).

TVNZ 1 still won the night, but only just — with a peak demo share of 19.31 vs 18.53 for TVNZ 2 (Three’s was 13.44).

Gone Fishing opened its six-week run with nearly 22,000 core demo viewers and peaked with 23,500 before starting its decline with 14,762.

Have TVNZ stopped showing Gone Fishing altogether as I haven’t seen it on for the last few weeks and it’s not on TVNZ on Demand either.

  2. S2 resumes from E3 on Saturday, Anthony. The show’s run has been disrupted by live cricket and Christmas/New Year programming. Have just checked TVNZ+, where S1 and E1 and 2 of S2 are on the service.
